Sheetrock Fastener Combination: Zero, Mounting Bolt, Shim & Toggler, SKU 260

Applications
We have added the combination of the  Zero, Mounting Bolt, Shim & Toggler, SKU 260 because it is a popular combination.  Medium weight wood panels can be mounted directly to drywall, concrete block or any other surface with a hollow cavity using only a 1/2" hole.

Description
The Zero (SKU 320) is a medium duty, one piece, injection molded insert fastener designed to mount  panels 'straight-in' with zero reveals. The Nylon 66 fiberglass-reinforced body and steel screw withstand repeated removal.  The Zero compression fits into a 1" drilled hole in any hard substrate.  Steel alignment pins (SKU 330) are available for a fast and accurate layout in both the field and shop.  The Zero simply pushes into the bolt with about 10 pounds of force and can be removed with about 25 pounds of force.

The Mounting Bolt used is Star Hanger's 3/16" double-headed bolt (SKU 245) with a  #10-24 standard thread x 2¼" long.  Made of mild steel, non tempered so it retains some flexibility.  The 3/16" Anchor Bolt, fits the Star Zero with the use of a 1/8" thick washer.

The Snaptoggle® (SKU 250) works with the Star Mounting Bolt, and a variety of Star Hanger inserts.  We like the Snapptoggle, because it holds it's location in the drywall, is very strong, and is not easily pushed backward into the wall cavity when installing.

Cost  Benefit Estimates

The cost of the Anchor Bolt System varies with the combinations used. The hardware cost for direct connection to drywall is about $0.60 per square foot.  We believe the most common applications will be for pre-sized panels with the Zero or Lock inserted at the plant and sent out to the field;  with a template or alignment pins for installing the Anchor Bolts onsite.

Includes:
Star Zero, SKU 320                  $ 0.59
Star Mounting Bolt, SKU 520   $ 0.29
SnapToggle (SKU)                   $ 0.79
Total :                                       $ 1.67  Per Connection

12 fasteners per 4 ft. x 8 ft. panel = $ 20.04 per panel or $ 0.62 per sq.ft.

The Star Hanger allows direct panel application at half the cost of a full furring system.

Please see www.starhanger.com / Technical/Cost Estimates for details.

Product Advantages  Using Star Anchor bolt with 3/16" head

Hundreds of possible combinations

  • Requires smaller hole than the Star Hanger
  • Allows for hanging of wood panels on steel panels from the inside of cabs

Strength Testing  with 5/8" drywall & Zip Tie
Tensile Failure (Horizontal pull) = 110 lbs.
Working Strength ( Pull from furring) = 20 lbs.
Shear Failure (Vertical weight holding) = 180 lbs.
SWL:  (Safe Working Load)  = 20 lbs.
