247 Rivnut 10-24 Steel Nut (100 Rivnuts)

Applications
247 Rivnut is basically a threaded 'Pop Rivets' and can be fitted into a small hole from only one side of a steel panel.  The 247 Rivnut screw into the 245 Mounting Bolts for use in the many applications like connecting wood panels to steel panels.

Elevator panels can be mounted directly to steel panels using a combination of the 247 Rivnut - 245 Mounting Bolt 3/16" - 340 Lock  combination, all mounted from the inside of the cabin, thus eliminating any necessity to access the elevator shaft itself.

Description
247 Rivnut is a reliable and well tested fastener, from the metal working industry.  The 247 Rivnut was the original blind installed internally threaded rivet and was invented in 1936 for the purpose of attaching a rubber aircraft-wing de-icer to the leading edge of the wings. (patent #2,149,199)

Star Hanger Systems sells the 247 Rivnut for use with the 245 Mounting Bolt 3/16", however they are widely available from many other sources.

Cost  Benefit Estimates
The cost of the Mounting Bolt System, varies with the combination used. With this system, the hardware cost for direct connection to steel panels, is about $0.43 per square foot.

Common applications will be for pre-sized panels with the 340 Lock plant-installed and sent out to the field, with a template or 211 Alignment Pins 3/16", for installing the 247 Rivnut and 245 Mounting Bolt 3/16" onsite:

Required:
340 Lock                          $ 0.59
245 Mounting Bolt 3/16"  $ 0.29
247 Rivnut                       $ 0.29
Total:                                $ 1.17  Per Connection

12 fasteners per 4 ft. x 8 ft. panel = $ 20.04 per panel or $ 0.43 per sq.ft.

Star Hanger allows direct panel application at about one half the cost of a full furring system.

Please see www.starhanger.com / Technical/Cost Estimates for details.

Product Advantages

  • Many possible combinations when used with the 245 Mounting Bolt 3/16", and other Star Fasteners
  • 247 Rivnuts are well tested and very strong
  • Requires a smaller hole than the 200 Hanger 1-3/8
  • Allows for hanging of wood panels on steel panels from the inside only

Strength Testing with 16 Gauge Steel Sheet (0.0598 or just under 1/16" ) & Rivnut

Tensile Failure (Horizontal pull) = 200 lbs.
Working Strength, Pull from Furring = 30 lbs.
Shear Failure (Vertical weight holding) = 150  lbs.  (bends noticeably)
SWL. Safe Working Load = 25 lbs.
