640 Nylon Cloud & Baffle Hanger
The NEW 640 Nylon Cloud & Baffle Hanger manufacture out of reinforced Nylon molded at 90 Tons of pressure; the size is 7/8" x 1-3/8" x 5-1/2". The cable length is easily set during installation with 3 Allen lock-screws at the cloud level, which greatly eases final adjustment. The New 640 Nylon Cloud & Baffle Hanger no longer requires a collar because the nylon conforms to the cable. The slight pliability of 640, the exoskeleton structural design and engineered ribs adds to it’s strength, as it flexes to conform to contours of the cable and the panel. The 640 Cloud Hanger is generally unseen and has a black matt finish.

Application
The 640 Cloud Hanger are adjustable mounting plates that make the final connection from 1/8” cable to wood ceiling panels, baffle, lattice beams, artwork, or anything else that will hold screws. The cable lengths are quickly adjustable, and wood panels are securely attached with 10 Pan Head screws, which evenly distribute the stress for a secure and durable connection even to thinner panels.

Strength Testing
During testing in most materials, the 1/8" cable failed at over 1,200 pounds, while the 640 remained undamaged. The wood (panel) to clip connection is the point of weakness, in the Star Cloud Hanging System. Strength Testing with 3/4" - 45 lb. particle board
•Tensile Failure (Horizontal pull) = 550 lbs. / Working Strength, Weight Holding = 40 lbs.
•Shear Failure (Vertical weight holding) = 350 lbs. / Working Strength, Pulled to Side = 30 lbs.
Note: The plate pullout strength will vary according to the size and depth of the screws, pilot holes, cable angle and material type. A single # 8 flat head wood screw with: 1/2" penetration, a 3/64" pilot hole, installed in 45 lbs particleboard, fails at about 55 lbs. With 10 Screws, this gives a total pull out of over 550 lbs, which divided by a safety factor of 10, gives a working load limit of 40 lbs.
Star Hanger Systems recommends: That ceiling clouds be made with a plywood core at least 3/4" thick, with four cables, a maximum panel weight of 160 lbs, and a maximum cable-angle of 45º from the horizontal.
